Student workers, summer helpers Primary Function:
Responsible for building and maintaining shrub and flower beds, and other outdoor landscape features.
Ensure the growth and health of plants, flowers, lawns, and landscaping.
Perform all other Grounds duties to include snow removal from roadway, stairs and sidewalks, grass mowing, trimming, maintenance of roadway and roadway devices, fencing, athletic field lining, and unloading deliveries.
Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals including Monks, faculty, staff, students, contractors, and vendors.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED.
Knowledge of horticulture and landscaping design preferred.
Qualifications and
Experience:
1-3 years? experience in landscaping role.
Must possess valid driver?s license, Ability to read and write English language.
Good communication skills both written and oral.
Must be available for work during nights and weekends.
Strong customer service focus.
Essential Duties:
Operate and maintain power equipment, tools, mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, manlifts, etc.
Responsible for care of flowers and shrubs beds including mulching, trimming, and pruning.
Construct and maintain hardscapes such as walkways, patios, and walls.
Apply pesticides and fertilizer to maintain healthy plants.
Water plants as required.
Remove weeds and dead plants.
Trim overgrown limbs and hedges.
Create aesthetically pleasing outdoor spaces.
Plant new bushes, flowers, plants, shrubs, trees.
Responsible for snow and ice removal from roads, sidewalks, parking lots, stairs.
Remove leaves, fallen branches, other weather-related debris.
As directed by supervisor prepare for field sports events.
Includes lining of outside playing fields, grooming fields, setup for athletic events.
Maintain fields to standards established by NCAA Division III requirements and PAC President?s Athletic Conference.
Minor repairs of roads, parking lots, curbs, sidewalks.
Maintain and install signage and banners on campus.
Maintain and groom artificial turf fields and athletic fields fencing.
Provide support for Steeler training camp including installing security fencing, delivering tables and chairs, building temporary tent flooring.
Moving campus furniture as requested including to and from storage.
Receive, unload, and deliver items to various campus buildings.
Support campus events by delivering tables, chairs, etc.
to rooms, fields, and other locations.
Responsible for trash removal from all campus grounds.
Includes hauling trash to dumpsters, litter pickup, recycling to ensure a clean attractive campus appearance.
Responsible for small animal control, capture and release, including but not limited to groundhogs, skunks, and cats.
Cleaning roadway drains.
Perform duties from written work orders.
Must respond to off-hours calls, work weekends and nights as assigned to complete scheduled or emergency work.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Other Duties:
Hauling of paper, furniture items to the dumpsters, and items to storage.
Setting up and cleaning up from picnics, spring fest, and other outside activities.
Working on weekends to line fields and preparing for games following NCAA rules.
Maintaining the grounds by removing debris of all kinds.
Special Challenges and Environment:
Must have physical ability to lift heavy objects.
Work involves considerable physical activity including lifting, pulling, pushing objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
Must have the ability to walk, stand, climb, and bend for extended periods of time.
Work involves exposure to hot and cold temperature conditions.
Exposure to dirt, dust, noise, fumes, odors, rain, snow.
Able to climb ladders, work from heights, work from manlifts.
Working environment may include exposure to hazards, such as chemicals, and physical risks that are mitigated by and require following safety rules and precautions, utilizing appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets.
