Job Summary


 


Kennametal is seeking a highly-motivated Senior Manager of Global Business Operations Excellence to join our team. The role of Senior Manager, Global Business Operations Excellence is expected to be a thought leader and change agent for efficient business practices. You will drive simplification and effectiveness throughout the business and will interact with and influence team members at all levels of the organization.


 


The Senior Manager of Global Business Operations Excellence acts as an expert on operational excellence and project management. You will develop and lead an operational excellence and project management operating system to measure business performance, drive continuous improvement and effectively identify, prioritize, execute, and close business improvement projects. You will lead strategic business projects and facilitate business improvement initiatives. You will directly lead a team of project managers and indirectly influence the organization toward simplification and continuous improvement.  The work will be highly cross functional, requiring collaboration with Commercial and Business Unit Leaders and their teams. This position requires strong collaboration, communication, leadership, and change management skills as well as experience driving business improvement projects.


 


Key Job Responsibilities


 



  • Engage in strategic discussions and provide data-based recommendations to drive business optimization.

  • Collaborate with business teams to proactively identify, prioritize, facilitate, and lead business projects and strategic initiatives.

  • Present complex topics in an easy-to-understand manner.

  • Facilitate workshops with team members from all levels of the business to drive action and results.

  • Develop and lead a management operating system to effectively drive operational excellence and project management rigor. Collaborate with operational excellence and project office resources throughout the organization.

  • Lead multiple complex projects simultaneously from definition to closure and control.  Manage issues, risks and budgets.

  • Leads, manages, and influences others to deliver projects on-time and within budget to achieve specified goals and objectives.

  • Facilitate issue resolution and escalation across the project teams, steering committees, and business stakeholders

  • Analyzes problems for root cause and recommend improvement solutions.

  • Directly lead a team of project managers to deliver high performance and high-quality results for the business. Motivate, mentor, and develop your direct team and the overall organizational to continually build the operational excellence and project management capability.


 


 


 


Education & Work Experience


 



  • 5-8 years' experience in discipline of operational excellence and project management.

  • 3-5 years direct management experience and influencing organizational change.

  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Engineering, Sciences, Business or a related field. Advanced degree (MS/MBA) and additional certifications preferred.

  • Demonstrated project management skills and hands-on working knowledge of the project management life cycle, PMP Certification and/or other project management training is preferred. Expert knowledge and proficiency with program management processes, methodology, and architecture.

  • Application knowledge of business improvement / Lean Six Sigma methodology. Experience with facilitation of Kaizen events. Lean Green belt or Black belt preferred.

  • Proficient experience leading organizational change.

  • Ability to redefine process to increase effectiveness and use statistics to make data driven decisions.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully coach and mentor LSS Green Belts, Project Leaders, Champions and Sponsors.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, leadership qualities, influencing, communicating, and consulting skills, team/interpersonal skills.

  • Experience working with and influencing global teams.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Project Management Software (e.g. MS Project), and demonstrated ability to learn other business software. Preferred project management software is CA Technologies PPM.

  • Travel Required: Global 20% - 50%
