Manufacturing Supervisor - Roll Shop

Carpenter s Latrobe Specialty Metals operations, based in Latrobe, Pa., manufacture high-performance specialty alloys serving aerospace, energy and other demanding markets. Carpenter acquired Latrobe in 2012 to increase capacity to meet strong customer demand and to broaden the company s product mix. Latrobe employs more than 1,000 dedicated production, maintenance and salaried staff and continues a century-long legacy of leadership in metals technology. Latrobe is part of the corporation s Specialty Alloys Operations division.



  • Continuously strive to improve shop production performance and improve shop quality through proper implementation of ISO procedures.
  • Coordinate the training and development of both roll shop and maintenance personnel.
  • Schedule, organize, and directly supervise work for roll shop employees, maintenance employees, and outside contractors including vacation scheduling.
  • Control spending on operating and maintenance supplies by preparing specifications and working with Purchasing Department to obtain bids on operating supplies, spare parts, and services.
  • Ensure the safety of individuals in the CRM.
  • Interpret and enforce the Labor Agreement.
  • Provide plant capacity assurance (minimize downtime) through use of preventative and predictive maintenance methods.
  • Work independently or in support of other engineers in solving problems requiring use of current engineering practices.
  • Perform standard data analysis, calculations, and/or drawings in producing engineering designs.
  • To direct the set up and operation of a rolling mill to produce finished billets, bars, and coils of various sizes and shape
  • To supervise and control rolling mill production performance, the quality of its products, and to strive to continuously improve overall performance of the crew.
  • Responsible for the training, development and safety of the hourly personnel on his crew and for implementing department plans, procedures and controls to attain the required results.
  • To continuously improve the yield, wreck rate, dimensional tolerances, and surface quality of hot rolled product.
  • To develop set-up parameters for new products
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Two year college degree or demonstrated equivalent experience as determined by department management.
  • Minimum two years supervisory experience in a manufacturing/operational environment or equivalent demonstrated experience as determined by department management
  • Applies management expertise to improve efficiency and accomplish operational objectives within own area of responsibility or department.
  • Practical understanding of industrial/manufacturing principles, standards, methods and practices.
  • Ability to work 3 rotating shifts.
  • Must be able to work weekends.
  • Experience with lean concepts a plus.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
