Product Metallurgist - Staff Specialist

Primary Duties: Take lead role in executing project work for product lifecycle management, including cost down, optimization, and enhancement efforts and assist in identification of opportunities. Act as senior technical resource for the assigned site, supporting key process and product improvement initiatives. Develop and implement process routings utilizing state-of-the-art manufacturing methods to meet stringent customer requirements Interface with customers and the internal Commercial team related to product usage, applications and product development to surface customer unmet needs and drive adoption according to strategic initiatives Review customer specifications for our ability to manufacture the associated product based on intimate knowledge of our product capability. Support Alloy Design and Product Development metallurgists by facilitating the scale up of technology from the lab or other locations to a full production environment. Support manufacturing to address quality issues associated with the daily production and utilize statistical methods to solve problems and optimize product quality and performance Monitor existing engineering standards and processes as well future technologies related to our products and assist in developing appropriate actions Interact with Carpenter engineering and/or manufacturing staff at Carpenter facilities to lead and assist with implementation of product improvements and developments. Scope out project needs, design experiments using standard experimental design techniques and leverage resources for advanced alloy and process modeling techniques. Prepare technical reports based on work performed Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.    Requirements: Four-year college degree in Materials Science and Engineering,  Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics or other related field.  10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment combined with consistently strong proven performance.   Ability to travel 5 - 15%.  Six Sigma or variation reduction training is a plus. Ability to apply SPC, Six Sigma and BPI tools in the search for and elimination of project and/or manufacturing process inefficiencies. The successful candidate will have practical work experience or graduate studies emphasizing metallurgical products and processes, with a strong understanding of processing - structure - property relationships. Demonstrated knowledge in alloy steels, high strength stainless steels, Ni-base alloys, and Co-base alloys is strongly encouraged. Familiarity with vacuum induction melting, air electric arc melting, electroslag remelting, vacuum arc remelting, thermomechanical processing (forging, pressing, hot rolling), drawing, cold rolling, and associated finishing operations is strongly encouraged. Proficient project management skills are essential with demonstrated drive and passion towards project outcomes. Ability to make significant individual contribution to attainment of team objectives. Must be able to set clear priorities, commit to achieving deliverables, and deliver on commitments on time with above-the-line accountability.  Ability to recognize, communicate, measure, and implement actions to mitigate technical risks. Ability to provide support, leadership, and guidance to peers, customers, and manager in key projects and opportunities.  Ability to work with management to develop and implement strategic plans for the company. Has shown dedication to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers and makes decisions based on information gained from strong customer interactions. Willing to speak up and speak out, but can reach consensus based on information at hand.  Capable of taking on tough assignments both independently and in team-based settings. Strong overall business and people skills, including written and verbal communication skills, and willingness to work in a fast-paced, ever changing environment. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
